When: Saturday April 28, 2012 from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM
Where: Four Points by Sheraton Edmonton South (7230 Argyll Road)

The focus of the conference is “Moving Forward.” Now that many of the legal battles for rights have (arguably) been won, our community has the daunting task of determining what we are fighting for.

Objectives:

  • Educate all in attendance about where the queer community currently sits, and the hurdles we have overcome.
  • Generate discussion on where we need to go.
  • Empower attendees to ask the tough question “what are we fighting for?”
  • Encourage networking of those in attendance.
  • Showcase the amazing work of Canadian queer-serving organizations.

What - F*** Equality: Erotic Short Stories for Rowdy Queers
Deadline: Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Against Equality (www.againstequality.org) is putting together a new anthology of erotic fiction, so they need your help! They’re looking for submissions of original, unpublished stories between 1500 – 2000 words that incorporate their political agenda of challenging mainstream gay and lesbian politics (ie. marriage, military service, and hate crimes legislation) into the storyline.

They want to hear about your wildest fantasies of raucous anti-war organizing, lesbian wolf packs fighting to end anti-queer violence (Born in Flames tribute anyone?), trans prison librarians organizing erotic poetry writing groups, seducing marriage equality interns to the dark side, and lots more! These are just a few examples to get all your juices flowing. And remember: political erotica (when is erotica not political?) doesn’t have to be dull and didactic – let your imaginations run wild!

Submissions are due May 15th by email to againstequality<at>gmail<dot>com; they hope to complete the editing process early in the summer. Each contributor selected for publication will receive two copies of the book as compensation. Submissions should be formatted as either .doc, .docx, .pdf, or .txt files. Please include a short 50 – 100 word bio.

What - Day of Silence/ Breaking of the Silence
When - Friday, March 16, 2012 from 3pm to 6pm
Where - Students’ Union Building, U of A campus

Siderite in conjunction with the RHA is organizing the annual Day of Silence on Campus!

The Day of Silence Commemorates the Silence that many LGBT find in their daily life as they are forced to hide who they are and hide who they love. All week from March 12th through to the 16th they will be tabling around campus and handing out green bandanas and lanyards with speaking cards (if you choose to participate).

Show your Support on March 16th by either taking a vow of Silence or by wearing green (as they know that classes can sometimes get in the way of being silent). The day concludes in the breaking of the silence at 3:00 in Sub and will include guest speakers and food. So stop on by and show your support for LGBT persons on campus.

What - Jeffery Straker Live in Edmonton
When - Friday, March 16 6:45pm
Where - McDougall United Church (10025 - 101 Street)

Awareness and fundraiser concert for Living Positive Through Positive Living Society

Originally from small town Saskatchewan, the classically trained pianist was raised by a church organist mother and auctioneer father. He swears he was born under the piano on the family farm. All this might explain his ability to share songs with audiences. Jeffery has been invited to showcase at Canadian Music Week, NXNE, the Western Canadian Music Awards (Multiple times), as well as JunoFest. His songwriting has seen him become a national top 10 finalist in the Canadian Radiostar Songwriting Competition and a top 20 finalist in the global 2009 Unisong Competition. In September 2010 he was honored to be short-listed for the Sask. Lieutenant Governor’s Arts Award. Not at all sure if he would actually win it, he was delighted to attend the gala as he was sure the cake would be amazing. It was.

Tickets ($15) available in advance at Tix on the Square at 9930 102 Ave
phone # 780-420-1757 <tel:780-420-1757> , email : tix@tixonthesquare.ca
